Creativity, A Call to Awakening

A new workshop led by Emily Hanlon
October 13-15, 2006
Country House Retreat Center, White Haven, P
A.

The multifaceted journey of creativity is not limited to the arts. There is another level of creativity that beckons us: awakening to the deeper truth of who we are, or who we would be. This is the journey of soul, an ancient quest central to the great myths.

The journey of soul is nothing less than a metamorphosis.

Like the caterpillar, we make our way through existence, more often than not suffering "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune". Until, if we are lucky, we begin to hear a distant yet vaguely familiar call, at first little more than a stirring that asks: "Is this all? There must be more to life than this…. There must be more than I have seen ... except in those oh so few magical moments of unfettered being …"

Unable to discern a clear path to the answer, we usually turn away. For some of us, the call becomes irresistible and we know we must brave this journey... it is the journey of awakening to who we truly are...

Unable to discern a clear path to the answer, we usually turn away. But eventually, the call becomes louder, the questions more demanding:

  • What is my purpose here in this life?

  • Is there meaning behind my struggle and pain?

  • Why does peace elude me?

  • Why am I here?

When the call becomes so insistent, it can no longer be denied, and we become seekers on the path of soul.

Last April I held my first workshop that germinated from a call I could no longer deny. It was not a writing workshop, yet we wrote memorable pieces. And although it was different from past workshops, it grew from the path that I have been following for years. I called it "Creativity, The Journey Home."

"I feel so much more confidant about the connection I share with my Muse after this weekend. I trust her and the places she takes me. I trust the process itself, which before I could not understand for trying to understand it through my mind's eye. And so I felt fear, and blocked. Now I see my Muse has my best interests at heart. I know that the chaos I feel will resolve if I stick with it. And best of all, the journey is filled with magic, mystery and gems beyond my wildest imaginings... I am on the journey home."
