Welcome To
The Fiction writers Journey

Picture
As a Fiction Writing Coach and Book Doctor, the programs I offer are built on a foundation that teaches my students the skills they need to write a complete novel.
As a published novelist, I know that moving from the blank page to a finished manuscript is both challenging and exciting. It's essential to the work I've done with hundreds of people and for myself. I've been published eight times and am passionate about this work. If you want a writing coach who lives and breathes fiction writing, I'm the one.
I have been consistently helping fiction writers for over thirty-five years. I care deeply about helping you attain your freedom as a fiction writer, whether you're writing for the journey itself or want to make writing a career. Whatever your goal, I believe this freedom is most fully expressed by completing a manuscript.
I Work With Writers Of All Experience, Whether You've Completed Your Novel And Need A Book Doctor, Or You've Just Started Your Story!
I specialize in eight genres of writing: Historical fiction, memoir, mystery, adventure, women's fiction, children's books, fantasy, and young adult novels. Although different genres require different elements, there are basics to storytelling that are necessary in any work of fiction. I can help you with all of these, including:
  • How to use professional fiction writing techniques to complete a first draft of your manuscript
  • The steps in developing and completing your book
  • Understanding the process of turning a manuscript into a polished novel
  • Writing a query letter
  • Finding a literary agent or, if you wish, go the route of self-publishing
As a Book Doctor and Fiction Writing Coach for the last thirty years, I’ve helped hundreds of writers begin and complete well-developed, character-driven novels with strong page-turning plots.

Manuscript Mentoring
Go From The Blank Page To A Finished Manuscript
I designed my Manuscript Mentoring Programs for people who are committed to completing the first draft of a manuscript. Whatever your level of writing experience, this is an incredible goal that I can facilitate when you're in one of my Manuscript Mentoring Programs. Whether you choose a month, three months, six months, or a full year Mentoring Program. Whichever program you choose, you'll be able to talk with me and share your writing as often as you wish throughout the week. Learn More

Book Doctor
Enjoy The Advantage Of Creative Insight With Professional Accessibility
When you choose me as your Book Doctor, I don't just read your manuscript and then write an evaluation. By using the “Review” function in Word, I make in-depth comments and substantive suggestions that you work on as you read your reviewed manuscript and make changes in the moment! This is far more helpful and inspiring than just receiving an eight or ten-page evaluation and then have to search on your own to find how to work in the suggested changes into the written manuscript. Learn more.
Hi Emily, I wanted to let you know I signed a three-book deal for my mystery set in Savannah and have several short stories being published this year. This is in no small part due to your coaching and your Writing Retreats, so I wanted to thank you for all you have done for me over the years and also let you know that my writing life is doing well.

Writing Workshops
I have two weekly writing workshops. One is at my home in Yorktown Heights, NY, and the other is held on the telephone, through conference calling. Everyone reads and receives a critique every week. Workshops are intimate, instructive, and supportive. Good critiquing leaves you inspired, not deflated, and that is what you will experience in all of my workshops!

Teach, Support, Inspire: About Emily

As a fiction writing coach, I guide my students in all aspects of the writing process — from jump-starting ideas for their stories to delving into their creative unconscious and bringing their characters to life. I do this through my understanding of how the different stages of the creative process allow the freewheeling possibilities of a first draft to progress into a more keenly developed story that leads to completion. Learn More About Emily
