​The magic of our 2022 Woman’s Writing Retreat reveals itself as, day by day, we learn first to trust and then to embrace the Chaos of  early draft writing, which is really our Imagination at work!

Writing fiction demands that we feel at ease in this Chaos which is also called "the seething sea of our Imagination." Like Alice, we must follow the White Rabbit down the Rabbit Hole into our personal Wonderland.​​
Once there, you embark on labyrinthine journeys, encounter fanciful, strange, nightmarish, and even mythical characters who await us in metaphorical byways, lush woods, and the fathomless seas of dreams. Adventures abound. Whether bright or dark, Chaos dominates, creating confusion and often a sense of failure.   

​Could this Chaos have a secret purpose?

Would your journey be more productive and rewarding if instead, you traveled safely along a wide, scenic boulevard, roadmap in hand?

You’ll experience the answers to both these questions and so much more during our Retreat at my Zephyr Shore oceanfront homes in Bar Harbor, Maine.
​​While pondering this year’s Retreat, I had a sudden inspiration, one which opened the doorway to a way for us to experience this Chaos, metaphorically swim in it, find story and structure within it and rise up out of it! 

By the end of our Retreat, we'll all have a unique, visceral experience of floating in the swirling Chaos of the imagination, then traveling from chaos to the completion of your story. 

​This activity that we’ll be sharing, seemingly having nothing to do with fiction writing, is in fact the perfect template for birthing characters and plot, then weaving them together in scenes that provide a wealth of dramatic tension and lead to completion!

​You’ll go home with a physical image of this process, one that will bring back memories you’ll be able to apply to each stage of each new story you write.
​​But back to the Retreat itself. From the very first evening, together we create a Circle of women who support you and whom you support in return. We help each other become warriors for our Creativity. We take risks, have outrageous fun, dine splendidly, and breathe deeply of the intoxicating ocean air!
And we write. Do we ever! We write, we read, and we share.  We do this in what I believe is sacred space at Zephyr Shore – the name we’ve given to the oceanfront land embracing my two homes, Rising Sun Cottage and Sound of the Sea.

​We’re nestled between the ocean and the mountains. Beautiful beyond imagining, it’s a haven far from our everyday realities. Here, together, we dare to write wildly, beautifully. Here we discover why this call to write is so vital to our soul.
