Welcome to Rising Sun and Sound of the Sea
My husband and I were lucky beyond words when we purchased the land for our two new homes, all the way back in 1983! This land is as spectacular as any you'll find. It is our mini Acadia National Park landscape, as private as it is beautiful!
For years, before we could build, we spent our summer vacations sitting on the rocks, reading, climbing, playing with the kids and the dogs, and always cooled by the incredible sea breezes.
Often we saw eagles, osprey, and many other birds as well as seals. This land is a birder's paradise. Of course, we hiked the trails of Acadia and meandered through the funky little town of Bar Harbor. I am thrilled that through this retreat, we can share these houses that we built with love and creativity.
Rising Sun Cottage is a 5,400 square foot home with a stunning elevated view of the ocean and complete access to our private shoreline. Click here to see a gallery!
Sound of the Sea is a 3,500 square foot home directly on the water's edge! Every room has a panoramic view of Frenchman's bay and the open ocean! Click here to see a gallery!
Ocean breezes waft through the beautiful, colorful rooms. And I based each room's colors on my palette of flower garden colors. The air in the house is continually refreshened and filtered. If it's really hot outside, we do have air-conditioning!
Both homes offer complete access to our private waterfront where you'll find bold, rocky ledges extending out into Frenchman’s Bay, with views unmatched by any other summer rental home on Mount Desert Island… dip your toes in the water or, if you’re a polar bear, swim!
We have tidal pools with mussels, anemones and all sorts of aquatic life, a miniature Thunder Hole and 330 feet of totally private shorefront including a cobblestone beach.
Ten minute walk and you’re in Acadia… Twenty minute walk to the center of Bar Harbor (the most dog-friendly town in America)… Twenty minute bike ride to Sand Beach.
But best of all, there is easy access to spectacular rocky ledges and the ocean. So walking or sitting on our rocks delights the senses at both high and low tide, in all seasons and weather. The silver linings of any “bad” weather are the crashing waves, the flying spray and the melodic sounds of the sea.
When we gather for meals, we do so in our spacious living room, enjoying each other, the delectable food and the gorgeous ocean views.
Or meeting room is equally spacious and overlooks my main wildflower garden and the ocean beyond. In Bar Harbor, Maine, home of Acadia National Park, we designed our two recently built vacation homes so that each room has panoramic ocean and sunrise views.
